If you wonder, you are not alone. Lots of people are trying to figure out how to make the most of their online marketing efforts, especially those who are struggling. This article provides some excellent suggestions that will help you learn how to make money from home, online and offline.
To Make Money From Home Do These Things First
You’ll find this site contains content “nuggets,” good stuff, that will help you discover how to make money from home but in order to learn my down and dirty, rock solid, will-always-work-no-matter-what strategies, you’ll need to get on your knees and beg! Just KIDDING! 🙂 I’m not a horrible guy. I just like to have fun doing this blog! Ok, enough joking around. Let’s get to it …
This section is extremely important. It has nothing to do with ideas that will enable you to make money from home yet it has everything to do with your success. Make sure you DO the things in this section first.
“You don’t have to be a genius or a visionary or even a college graduate to be successful. You just need a framework and a dream.” – Michael Dell
The Home Office
To make money from home requires dedication and a dedicated space to do your daily planning, and work your business. Your home office doesn’t need to be glamorous but …
You need to set up a home office, even if it’s a small, unused broom closet. The reason your own home office is so important is because …
You need to make sure you are free from interruptions during your “business work time.”
This is very important to your success.
Children, spouses, and other people can interrupt at the most inconvenient times. Make sure your time to work is your time to work so you can maximize earnings. Not doing so could mean failure.
The ONLY exception may be if you are single, have no children and can easily shut out interruptions.
Budget For Business Expenses
Remember to create a budget before you start to work online. This budget will be determined by what kind of home business you are starting. You need to know what your overhead will be in regards to the cost of your computer, scanner, printer, internet connection and hosting if your plan is to sell items (products, services, etc) via the net.
You should also include the cost of any other supplies you may need such as pens, pencils, rubber bands, maybe some business cards in case you meet people while out and about.
If you are thinking of embarking on any type of online marketing business that requires you to recruit, train and motivate (network marketing is a prime example) make sure you include telephone, fax, webcast, list building tools, software, video creation, advertising and other expenses that may be necessary to grow your business. The tools you actually need will be determined by what kind of online business you start but …
The good news is that ALL of the above items you might need are tax-deductible along with other things you may already have yet can not deduct until you have started your own home business. Learn more about making money your first year even if you fail.
Create Your Goals
This section is extremely important. There is actually two parts.
Your “WHY.” Your “why” is the reason you want to earn extra money from home or create enough income to replace that you earn from your current employment. Whether this reason (why) is because you need extra income to pay the bills or replace your current income so you can stay home and be “mommy” or “daddy” 24/7 it doesn’t make much difference. Yet this “why” needs to be strong. It needs to be strong enough to keep you going, pushing through the obstacles, when the going gets tough. And if you are looking to replace your current income it will get tough.
Your Goals. You need to set goals and determine exactly what you want to accomplish and by what time. A goal without a time limit is a wish and usually never achieved. So …
Before you get too carried away make sure you know whether you want to produce some extra income or want to replace your current income. If you want to replace your current income you’ll want to choose a “work from home job” or a business that will realistically enable you to do that. One thing …
I’m Not Into Jobs
I’m not into working a job. I don’t want to be someone else’s dream maker. I have my own dream and working for someone else does not help me achieve that so this site’s main focus is on starting and creating some sort of home business that will enable you to reach your goals. If you are into “a work from home job” this isn’t the right site for you.
The Four (4) Types of Income
There are four (4) distinct types of income. You should understand what exactly differentiates one type from the other allowing you to make the best choice in moving forward. Wouldn’t it suck to build a business only to find your business is more like a job? If you are like me, you want a business you don’t have to constantly oversee or “bill hours” for in order to bring in fresh income, does that sound like you? So let’s take a look at the four different types of income.
Linear Income (the J.O.B.)
Linear income is derived from working a job but there are two types of this income. Your wages are based either on an hourly record of time worked or on a salary. One is slightly better than the other yet both have their own disadvantages. Here are some examples of linear income:
- Commissions (if they are not recurring)
If you are hourly based when you work you earn income, when you don’t work you don’t get paid. Those who work on an hourly basis can also receive an extra pay benefit called “overtime.” This basically means they get paid extra for extra hours worked.
If the party is on a salary their wages aren’t based on hours work but on the job itself. These folks can earn bonuses and other perks but they have no stipulated hours. They can work 70 hours per week yet not be compensated for overtime because they have agreed to a certain amount (the salary) based on the job not hours worked.
This is the drawback of salaried positions. Yet salaried positions are often much better than hourly in the respect that if that salaried person doesn’t work one day due to illness, family emergency etc …
They still get paid if that is in their contract BUT this isn’t something that the boss will look kindly upon if it seems to become a habit.
The drawbacks to linear income and the J.O.B. are:
- Your boss owns you
- You can be replaced
- If you don’t work, you don’t get paid (unless salaried).
The interesting this to note is that many businesses are victims of point #3. The self-employed person may not have a boss but if he or she doesn’t work they don’t get paid. This is seen in the professions such as doctors, dentists, lawyers, and others. They may be the boss but unless they are “billings hours” they aren’t making money.
Passive income is found in several self-employed business models.
If you author a book you receive a royalty which many believe to be residual income, but, it really isn’t. It isn’t what I call residual because even though the author only writes that particular book once people usually only buy ONE book unless they buy another for a friend or relative.
Therefore once the buyer has bought the author’s book the author needs to find another book buyer, doesn’t he? This is why authors generally continue writing more books if they want to keep receiving high incomes. On the other hand, IF the author writes a book that becomes a “classic” which is purchased by generations of people then the author could certainly receive what is deemed correctly as “residual income.”
Affiliate marketing also creates passive income. Passive income is earned by those who, discover a niche’ that never runs dry, build out a website that offers that niche’ something they need or want and when someone buys it the webmaster ( site owner) receives a commission. If the product is an ebook, whether they created the book themselves or not is irrelevant because chances are the person who bought it is ONLY going to buy it ONE time. That being the case …
The site owner is forced to look for another book buyer yet, with a good niche’ full of hungry buyers, one that is always being filled with NEW buyers this may not be a difficult task BUT …
IF a niche’ is sucked dry for the sales of that particular product the website owner needs to either find another product or service or another niche.
That’s why it is very important to choose niches and products wisely. If you choose an evergreen niche loaded with buyers and one that is constantly replenished, then you won’t have to worry about your well running dry. You can build out a website ONE time and get paid for years. If your niche’ is one that has people looking for a specific solution but that solution requires repurchase on a continual basis you then have true passive, almost residual income.
Residual income is income that comes in month after month, year after year for doing something ONE time. You write a book that becomes a well-known classic, invent a new wowie zowie doohickey and earn royalties on the sales of whatever it is you created. You could be a lottery winner and take yearly payments or an astute investor (properties, financial instruments) or a life and disability insurance broker and receive residual income.
If you’re an affiliate marketer, like Kyle and Carson, who have created a valuable membership site, from which you can also earn residual income. You create it once and get paid over and over, monthly and/or yearly.
As an affiliate, you’d also earn residual income when you recommended a membership site, like Wealthy Affiliate, or another product or service that required or compelled the buyer to buy over and over, not just once. Every time the customer re-purchased you’d be paid. Now that is exciting, right?
Another good example, other than a membership site like Wealthy Affiliate would be an excellent health product from which your niche’ derives numerous benefits and so do NOT want to be without. They (your customers) buy it over and over and you get paid over and over. Pretty cool huh? So …
What could be better than residual income?
LEVERAGED Income, Passive, and Residual
Leveraged income is any income that is derived from the efforts of others AND can continually grow whether you work or not.
Leveraged passive and residual incomes are found within large companies and/or certain industries. One is the franchise industry. When Ray Kroc developed the McDonald’s franchise he gave his company the power of LEVERAGED residual income because …
- He received a “cut” of the gross profits from each franchise (residuals)
- He had a sales force working to sell franchises which made him money (LEVERAGE)
LEVERAGED residual income can also be found in the insurance industry.
Insurance policies are sold one time (usually), the customer pays for it monthly and the broker gets paid as well. Now if the broker hires sales people then he has just entered the realm of LEVERAGED residual income because he will get paid off the efforts of others just like Ray Kroc and …
The same LEVERAGED residual income can be found in affiliate marketing. You can accomplish the same LEVERAGED residual income in affiliate marketing by creating your own product or membership site and then recruiting other affiliates who market your product or service.
LEVERAGED residual income is also found in network marketing (MLM). Every time a network marketer sponsors, trains and motivates a new recruit to build their own home business the sponsor receives a cut of the recruits production. When the new recruit begins sponsoring and training and motivating their recruits to build a home business then … their sponsor AND their sponsor’s sponsor receive income from their efforts. This LEVERAGED residual income can proceed throughout infinity depending upon the company pay plan.
There you have it. The four (4) types of income, how they are generated and in what industries they are found. Hopefully, you now understand more about the types of income available to humans and how those income are generated.
Are you interested in creating passive, residual or leveraged residual incomes online? Then you should learn how to market online. You can do that by checking out and joining Wealthy Affiliate.
To Make Money From Home Ideas That
(Most Likely)Will Not Make You Rich
To make money from home use the the following ideas for some extra cash. Sometimes we don’t need to get rich we just need some extra income to pay bills, buy gas, put food on the table. You may want to check out some alternatives. Who knows, what starts as an extra cash gig may turn into a full-time money-maker. 🙂
I’m going to list these opportunities in no particular order. You’ll have to choose which of them may be desirable to make money from home and likely to create sustainable linear income.
Yes, the following ideas give you a linear (job like) income. That is why they are my least personal favorites.
This is an Amazon deal. Like most of the suggestions on this list I have never used it so I can not speak from experience. But others have told me that there are small tasks on Mechanical Turk that you can complete easily.
And I do know Amazon.
I really like Amazon.
MT may be another way to put your down time to good use. You don’t need to be too focused on certain online money-making ventures like Mechanical Turk. You can do the tasks while watching TV if you like.
This gig will not net you a fortune, but it could bring in some extra grocery or gas money.
Sell on Ebay Or Do a Yard Sale
One man’s junk is another man’s treasure. If you have possessions lying around the house that you consider expendable, do some research and see what those items might be worth to someone else and …
Sell some of the junk that you have around the house on eBay or via a yard sale. You do not have to pay to set up an account. You can list your products in any way that you want. There are many different training sites that you can use to get started the right way on eBay. You can learn where to find products to sell and how to spy on your competition so you make the profits you want from eBay.
IF you discover that you are good at setting up yard sales (you’ve done several successful ones) people will pay you up to 30% of the gross to do theirs. It would be beneficial to do several for free or a cut rate at first in exchange for a nice referral letter. If you happen to live in a climate that is conducive to year around yard selling you could have a sustainable business.
You can make money online at home by doing research as an information broker. Many individuals and businesses need people to research information online and provide it to their advertising departments.
Sometimes this is freelance work.
Sometimes companies provide an actual position that may come with benefits.
You can start out freelance, build your reputation and then seek out a full-time position if you wish.
Beware of sites where you have to make a bid to complete someone’s work. These sites devalue you based on the fact that the lowest bid most frequently wins. There will be some people hiring on these sites who are decent, of course, but the bulk just want their work done cheaply yet one usually has to start somewhere.

Become an Uber Driver.
Driving for Uber is a great way for people to make money from home while they are trying to get their own business up and running.
You will need to pass a background check and have valid instate driver’s license and auto insurance.
The process is almost painless.
You can start as an Uber driver to pay the bills.
I have to say that becoming an Uber driver would not be my chosen way to make money from home simply because:
- You’re a cab driver with a different name
- You will encounter rude, obnoxious people
- Costs for gas, extra insurance plus wear and tear on your vehicle will diminish profits
But don’t take my word for it because I have never done it! And according to this article driving for Uber may be an easy, fun and monitarily rewarding experience. Uber is one of the fastest growing companies in history (gotta be a reason) so I could definitely be all wet in my opinion.
Bookkeeping is a perfect business idea to make money from home for those who have the training. It is not necessary to be a Certified Public Accountant in order to become a freelance bookkeeper however it is necessary to have the background knowledge that bookkeeping courses at any community college can offer.
This kind of freelance work is especially helpful for small businesses that do not need or cannot afford a fulltime bookkeeper, making it possible for you to have full time work through several smaller clients. The more clients you have the more you’ll make.
No one likes preparing taxes. I hate it yet taxes need to be paid whether the economy is booming or tanking. This is why I have someone do mine.
A home tax preparation business could be just your ticket to make money from home if you have a tax background, or are willing to take training courses.
Like bookkeeping you don’t need to be a CPA but you do need some knowledge. Since there are annual changes to the tax code, you will need to refresh your training each year, and you will also need to register with the IRS as a tax preparer. This is more of a seasonal business than a year-round endeavor, but it can be a great way to earn some extra income each winter/spring and goes nicely as an added income generator for those who do bookeeping.
Home inspection might be a great way for you to make money from home.
It’s an important part of the home buying process.
Having a professional home inspector check out the house to determine the condition of the building and point out any potential problems is a real asset.
A home inspector needs to meet the state regulations for the profession, which varies from state to state. Anyone who has worked in the construction industry, especially as a home builder or sub-contractor for a home builder will have a leg up.
Businesses always need graphic designers.
Graphic Design is used to create visual information.
It’s used for infographics, company logos, advertisements, posters, websites, and more.
While it is possible to be an entirely self-taught graphic designer, most have either a certification or a degree.
Other than the cost of design software, this business has very little overhead and can be done anywhere with a dedicated computer.
To make money from home try freelance writing as a form of online income. If you have a flair for writing you can also sign up at Elance or Upwork Or Freelance Writing for example and get jobs to write different things like articles, blog posts, whatever.
If you are good you could earn $25 bucks per article, but you’d have to be good.
If you are that higher caliber writer, 4 article jobs per day is $100 in earnings.
There are many websites out there that open up the doors to freelance writing. If you’re a fast writer that composes quality pieces, you can do very well!
Another place you can put your writing skills to work is HubPages.com. You can write about your favorite hobby, fishing, fly tying, or how to excel in calculus lol 😉 whatever you want to write about within HubPages guidelines is fair game.
The cool thing is that Hubpages offers ways to monetize your articles (hubs). You can get an Adsense account and earn from the ads Google posts on your hubs or you can join the HubPages ad pool and get a share of the revenue.
You can become an Amazon.com affiliate and offer Amazon products.
Some people make a few pennies a day while others create a 3-4 figure monthly income that helps them pay the bills.
I have a couple hubs on HubPages. I’ve had them for years. I’ve rarely updated them yet every month they make me a few dollars that helps pay for my hosting and other tools I need to make money from home on a consistent basis.
Do Gigs On Fiverr
I’ve only used Fiverr to get stuff done I’m not good at or don’t want to do but …
If you have some skills to pay the bills (graphic design, writing, video creation, etc) Fiverr.com may be something to seriously look at as well because …
There are some people on Fiverr that have to be making a living.
They offer quick, easy stuff for $5 but those with excellent, perfected skills, that are in demand, are charging far more than $5.
I KNOW some are earning $50-$100 per gig (add-ons) and are backed-up with orders!
If you have a super thick skin and don’t mind harassing people who are down on their luck this could be for you.
Debt collectors only need a telephone and a computer to work, making it a great way to make money from home. It’s also a recession-proof business.
In fact, ressessions increase business! Licensing requirements vary from state to state. Make sure you do your research and get any necessary requirements out of the way before you begin looking for contracts.
Home Cleaning Business
This is a business with low overhead and clients everywhere.
If you have a vacuum, carpet cleaner, mops, brooms and cleaning liquids you are in business.
The skill set is very easy to learn and house cleaning is one of the easiest businesses to start.
Depending on how much you want to grow, the income potential is pretty limitless.
And it isn’t seasonal!
Cleaning up a house for sale after the death of an owner is a chore that usually isn’t wanted. Yet the job is important.
Junk removal can be as simple as hauling away unwanted collections of trash (the horder syndrome) to the dump, or it can be as complicated as separating out the trash from the treasures and handling the actual sale of the goods.
If you have a truck and trailer you’re in business.
Since one person’s junk is another person’s treasure a junk removal business can also easily tie into a yard sale business as well.
Lawn Care and Snow Removal
Mow, edge and fertalize lawns during the summer and remove snow in the winter.
This is another business with low overhead and clients everywhere.
Have lawn mower, edger and shovel will tarvel kinda thing.
Snow removal from roofs in the winter can bring in some hefty daily wages, especially in areas that receive a lot of snow.
As people age the tasks of various kinds of yard work become more burdensome which necessitates the need for help.
Tax Advantages You Get By Working From Home
Any of the home business opportunities listed on this site qualify you for home business tax advantages. And don’t take these tax saving advatages lighty because they can save you tons of money on your income tax. It isn’t necessarily how much you earn that matters. It’s how much you keep! My TOP Choices To Make Money From Home AND Make That Money Online
ALL of these choices use affiliate marketing in some form to make money from home. You can design a cool website and write the best quality content imaginable but you won’t make money unless you use some form of website monetization. And that is where affiliate programs come into play. The affiliate programs are defined by the way you get paid. Remember we talked about the different type of income earlier?
If you get paid soley upon your own efforts the income derived is either “passive” or “residual”. If you also are paid on the efforts of others that is “leveraged” income. Leveraged income, whether passive or residual is the best form of income possible. Imagine an army of people all working for themselves yet making you money as well.
My #1 recommendation to make money from home is affiliate marketing. Affiliate marketing is simply selling other people’s stuff. Anytime you are recommending someone else’s product or service (you are not the owner) you are an affiliate.
It’s easy to find “stuff” to sell but that doesn’t mean you are gonna build an affiliate empire and make some serious bank.
Making bank as an affiliate takes skills.
If you want to make money, not just waste your time, you’ll need to know how to generate leads, follow-up, offer them what they want and more.
In other words, chances are, you ain’t gonna get rich tomorrow. It may take some time before you find your perfect affiliate niche to make money from home.
You would do well to align yourself with experienced veterans within your niche or simply find some good mentors. Attach yourself to an experienced, successful mentor because …
The fastest way to success is to follow someone who has already done what you want to do and is making money from home online. Talk with them and let them help you decide which niche you should be working within and what affiliate programs are worth your time and which are scams.
Proven affiliate programs:
Keep your eyes open for new affiliate opportunities. I am not saying join every program that comes online. I’m saying keep an eye out for any new opportunities that align with your mission statement and goals.
Just keep in mind this truth it is usually best to work one niche at a time until it is making good, solid money before trying another.
Focusing on the domination of one niche is extremely important.
Once you have one niche dominated and making some serious cash you can look for another niche opportunity to pursue. In this way, you will be an online money-making success sooner than you might think! Now …
One of the first things you need to do, before joining affiliate programs, is to figure out what areas of expertise you already have. I’m not talking marketing expertise or the ability to use marketing tools. I’m talking about an area or subject in which you are proficient. Maybe you are an expert in growing roses or tying dry flies (for flyfishing) or you are an expert in survival techniques. Whatever you are seriously knowledgable in should be the potential niche’ you begin looking at to make money from home.
“If you want to be successful, find someone who has achieved the results you want and copy what they do and you’ll achieve the same results.” – Tony Robbins
Network Marketing (MLM)
Network marketing is simply another form of affiliate marketing . The difference lies only in the pay plan which is multi-level instead of simply earning off of your own efforts. This fact give you the opportunity to recruit (sponsor) other like-minded individuals who then build a business that duplicates yours. This dulication results in leverage.
Network marketing is an extremely profitable business model for those who know how to make it happen. Yet making it happen in MLM is not nearly as easy as the cons would like you to believe. Yes, this business model is full of cons. That is NOT the fault of the business model. The busines model is sound and was proven legitimate by the Supreme Court in 1976.
Unfortunately where there is the possiblity of using people for gain you will find less than scrupulous comapanies and distributors (reps). With products, pay plans and recruiting systems being worthless, suspect, even down right scammy.
The number of companies I would consider joining is few.
I could probably count them on two hands but …
The opportunity to create HUGE incomes, especially with the advent of the Intenet is simply game changing. It used to be (when I was active in MLM) that 7 figure income were rare. Now 7 figure income are quite common with 8 figures now being the goal to surpass.
Blogging For Money
Taking the freelance article writing idea a step further you could set up a blog and begin writing blog posts (articles) and take advantage of various ways to monetize your blog.
You can generate income as an Adsense affiliate by serving up Google ads on a free blogger.com blog (not my first choice) or a hosted WordPress blog (best choice).
If your blog ranks and you reap loads of traffic your Adsense revenue could become quite large. THAT takes a LOT of traffic but even 1500 page views per day could generate $100 – $300 extra dollars per month depending upon your niche.
That money pays your hosting and more.
You could also offer good affiliate products that solve problems for your prospects in whatever niche you decide to work. And of course if you are now or become a network marketer you can use your blog to position yourself as an expert and capture leads.
Blogging for money can be very lucrative but again, like other forms of Internet and affiliate marketing, it isn’t a “get rich quick” scheme. It takes work and time to build up traffic and a regular following.
Like I just mentioned you may want to offer select affiliate products and services to prospects who visit your blog. It is imperative that you only offer quality products and services. And please …
Don’t become one of those network marketers that peddle trash products and/or join trash companies. Companies that offer 100% comissions (popular) can’t last. And the products are usually very over-priced and suck in quality. Think about your image. Think about the other people you may harm with a scammy program.
I personally choose quality first, commissions second.
I never offer an inferior product simply because I’ll make more money per sale.
I’d rather offer a top-notch, problem solving product I know will work for whoever buys it rather than dupe someone into buying a crap product just to receive a bigger affiliate commission.
Your customer’s welfare and satisfaction should ALWAYS come first, no matter what. If you wouldn’t want your mom to buy it or have your name attached to it don’t recommend it!
Most of the above extra money gigs (except for affiliate marketing, Network Marketing and Blogging) won’t change your life in any dramatic way (financial freedom) but for many people, even a couple extra hundred dollars a month means food on the table or gas in the car.
You can be among those who profit from working online.
Use the ideas that were just presented to you.
Soon, you will discover, depending upon which road you choose, that you are able to make a steady extra income. And …
IF you happen to be thinking of creating an online marketing empire but need some “seed” money I’d go with hubpages and/or Fiverr as long as you have skills that will allow you to make some bank. IF you market yourself properly and have some in-demand skills Fiverr will probably be quicker.
Start with my number one recommendation. Get trained. Learn to earn. Once you become trained, you become an expert. Then you can begin to help others who want to know how to make money from home online or dominate any niche’ you choose.
